Attorney Gen. Curtis Hill asks Hoosiers to watch for car dealers posing as private sellers on Craigslist

Local News

INDIANA (WEHT) – Attorney General Curtis Hill is asking Hoosiers to watch for car dealers posing as private sellers on Craigslist.

Dealers are prohibited by the site from advertising as a private party under “by owner”.

Those who post misleading ads often run into conflict with Indiana’s deceptive Consumer Sales Act.

Typically, dealers trying to mislead buyers will among other things, post pictures of vehicles parked in other settings than on dealer lots and write ads appearing to be from private sellers.

Anyone who believes they have encountered these kinds of ads is encouraged to file a consumer complaint.
