One person shot; another hit by an axe after fight over a tree

POSEY COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) — Indiana State Police and Posey County Sheriff’s Deputies are on the scene of an early morning shooting in Cynthiana.

Authorities say it happened around 1:30 Thursday morning in the area of Locust and Gum Street.

Posey County Sheriff Tom Latham deputies received a call a person had been shot.

When deputies arrived they found 39-year-old Austin Folsom of Francisco with a gunshot wound.

They also found 69-year-old Ricky Dixon of Cynthiana with a axe wound.

Deputies said 30-year-old Corey Hooker of Cynthiana had hit Dixon with axe.

Authorities detained Hooker and his girlfriend.

During the investigation, Sheriff Latham said Hooker and his neighbor Dixon, had been involved in an ongoing fight about a tree limb from Dixon’s property.

Thursday morning the argument turned violent when deputies said Hooker allegedly shot Dixon’s daughter’s boyfriend, Austin Folsom twice in the leg.

During the fight, deputies said Hooker picked up an axe and swung it at Dixon’s head.

Dixon received a cut to his hand.

Dixon refused treatment at the scene, and Folsom was transported to Deaconess ER.

Hooker was arrested at the scene and is currently booked in the Posey County Jail

Hooker is charged with aggravated battery.
