The three city-owned parking garages in downtown Evansville will soon be automated.
The Redevelopment Commission approved an agreement on Tuesday that will cost just under $300,000.
City officials say that money will be offset by more revenue and less overhead.
Right now, fees are collected by part-time employees at certain points of the day.
However, with automation, fees will be collected around the clock.
Kelley Coures with the Department of Metropolitan Development says the automation doesn’t mean those employees will be out of a job.
Those city workers will just be moved to different positions.
