“Beach bums” continue to have a ball at Tiki Week

EVANSVILLE, In. (WEHT) — If you’re looking to dig your feet into the sand this weekend, you don’t have to go all the way to the beach. In fact, you don’t have to leave the Tri-State.

You can head to Haynie’s Corner, where 60 tons of sand were put down for Tiki Week.

Organizers created an island in the middle of the street between Sauced and Moes.

Saturday’s highlights included a hog roast, and “survivor games” — which include a balloon toss, tug of war, a pineapple eating contest and more.

“Last night, I don’t know if i’ve ever seen that many people down here,” says Moriah Hobgood. “Everybody was out kinda supporting and loving it. The sand castle building competition was awesome. I was blown away by some of the sand castles.”

Tiki week continues through Sunday.
