UPDATE: Identity released of bicyclist who died after getting hit by a car in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind (WEHT) Evansville Police say a bicyclist involved in a serious crash on Thursday has died. The Vanderburgh County Coroner says Steven Chappell, 61, died from head and neck fractures.

Officers were called to Pollack and Weinbach around 12:45 p.m. after someone on a bicycle was reportedly hit by a car. EPD says the driver of the vehicle was pulling out of the Dollar Tree parking lot to go west on Pollack when he struck Chappell who was in the eastbound lanes of Pollack.

We’re told before officers arrived, a passerby had stopped to perform chest compressions on Chappell. When officers arrived, they took over until an ambulance arrived. Chappell later died at the hospital.

The driver’s blood was drawn and sent to the Indiana State Police Laboratory. He has not been charged pending results from the state lab.
