Evansville Police are investigating a body found inside an abandoned apartment after a fire Sunday.
According to an EPD report, the Evansville Fire Department was dispatched to Read Street and Michigan Street around 6:40 a.m.
Police said the firefighters went inside the abandoned apartment building and found a dead man inside one of the units. The door to that unit was open, according to EFD.
A neighbor told police the building was supposed to be demolished soon, and that homeless people had been repeatedly chased away from the property.
Both the coroner and crime scene unit responded to the fire. The fire is being investigated as an arson.
The deceased man has yet to be identified.
