Karl Kae Knecht’s name is synonymous with the city of Evansville. He was an editorial cartoonist for the Evansville Courier for about 40 years using his creativity to amuse readers during World War II, the Great Depression, and the Space Race.
Knecht also helped establish Evansville College and was almost single-handedly responsible for the establishment of Mesker Park Zoo.
Brad Byrd talks with Dr. James MacLeod about his new book “The Cartoons of Evansville’s Karl Kae Knecht: Half a Century of Artistic Activism.” Dr. MacLeod is a political cartoonist and history professor at the University of Evansville.
