The United Way’s Day of Caring kicked off with a breakfast at Old National Events Plaza.
Eyewitness News’ Shelley Kirk had the honor of emceeing the event that brought together hundreds of volunteers from surrounding counties.
University of Evansville men’s basketball coach and keynote speaker Walter McCarty said their work is felt far beyond Friday.
“There are a lot of programs out there that are successful that you might not get to see the reward or what it benefits until maybe two or ten years later,” said McCarty, “but they’re out there. And there are a lot of stories out there like mine, that people have every day, wins that people have everyday because of the United Way.”
All volunteers received a Day of Caring t-shirt and free admission to the breakfast.
