Buckle Up Owensboro Campaign Increasing Seat Belt Use

Local News

Owensboro has some encouraging results from the year-long Buckle Up Owensboro campaign. Owensboro Police say the number of drivers wearing their seat belts is up to nearly 93%.

That’s up from 86% last year.

Police are using events like Bukcle Up for a Buick and a competition among local high schools to get drivers and passengers to buckle up.

Owensboro High School won this year’s challenge – having 97% of students wearing their seat belts.

Jenna Hunt with Owensboro High School says winning felt good because they came up a little bit short during the first competition when Owensboro Catholic and Trinity won.

Police say the percentage of front seat passengers buckling up went from 84% last year to nearly 95%.
