Canned food competition benefits local food bank

Local News

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Canned food is not just for stocking up your pantry. In Evansville, it will be the building material for a design competition.

Hope of Evansville hosted the “Can-Struction” kick-off party Thursday at the Evansville Museum.

The competition awards the team that creates the best structure out of canned goods.

All canned food will go to the Tri-State food bank after the competition.

It is the first year for the event in Evansville.

It is already popular in other cities across the country.

“People build these incredible structures out of canned goods. I’ve seen Hello Kitty, and there’s a big beautiful heart, and they build these just like, amazing things. They look like they’re defying gravity,” said Nikki Waller, Hope of Evansville Director of Development.

The deadline for entries is March 27th.
