Cave-in-Rock Ferry reopens

KENTUCKY/ILLINOIS (WEHT) – The Cave-in-Ferry has reopened after it closed Wednesday morning due to high winds.

The ferry resumed its normal schedule at 1PM.


The ferry was unable to open due to wind gusts that were around 40mph that created hazardous river conditions at the crossing.

The ferry connects Kentucky 91 with Illinois Rte. 1 across the Ohio River between Crittenden County, KY and Hardin County, IL.

It usually operates from 6AM to 9:50PM CST, seven days a week.

On average, the ferry carries about 500 vehicles across the Ohio River.
