Before the fireworks and festivies kicked off in Evansville on the 4th of July, the celebration downtown kicked off with a lesson in history.
Local group “Citizens for Liberty” held a short ceremony at Four Freedoms Monument around 6:30 p.m.
The event included the national anthem and a reading of the Declaration of Independence,
“The more we can get out and show the younger generations you know, this is okay.” said Citizens of Liberty Chairman Jaosn Gerteisen. “This is what we need to do. We need to celebrate America, and we need to celebrate our history as Americans, and we need to take pride in that.”
The group says its mission is to educate the younger generation about the Bill of Rights and the Founding Fathers’ principles.
