OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) – The hotel brand for the latest project in downtown Owensboro is being announced during a new look at the project Wednesday.
The city of Owensboro and leaders for the Brio project will reveal conceptual renderings and what hotel brand will operate inside the new building.
A groundbreaking is set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of West 2nd Street where the new hotel and apartment building will stand across from the Owensboro Convention Center.
Officials with Gulfstream, the project’s developers. say the building will be 12 to 15 stories tall. It will have more than 160 apartments and 120 hotel rooms, with a built in parking garage.

“The fact that we can have apartments, condos, people coming down here, it’s just the beginning of more apartments and brownstones to come afterwards,” says Owensboro Mayor Tom Watson.
“There’s only so much land in downtown Owensboro and to utilize that land as best as possible without spending another $3 million the next block over to build a parking structure, makes sense,” says Jack Wells of Riverfront Brio, LLC.”We’ve got the standard Hampton, a very nice Holiday Inn here, we’ve got another Marriott project off of Highway 54 and East Parrish, so we were looking for something a little different.”
The project is expected to be done sometime in 2021.
