Classes start for the Running Rebels

Local News

SPENCER COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – The first day of school for most students in the Tri-State was last week.

But students at the South Spencer School Corporation got to enjoy a little extra summer this year and for good reason.

The running rebels ran back to class Thursday.

South Spencer Superintendent Dr. Richard Rutherford said they ended school early in May to start an $18 million high school renovation project.

Despite the week delay, they will still end at the same time as other schools.

“I enjoyed it because it gave us more of an opportunity to do more summer activities.”

“I love my kiddos, but I have to admit I always count down the days. I was ready for them to go back; my house was a wreck.”

South Spencer’s last day scheduled for May 22nd.

Part of that is they only have one snow day built into the calendar.
