Coal Miner Sues After Being Laid Off

An Illinois coal miner is suing his former employer after being laid off last month.

According to WSIL in Carbondale, Carl Leeper filed a class-action lawsuit against Alliance Resource Partners.

Leeper claims the company didn’t give enough notice when it laid off 200 miners at White Oak Mine in Hamilton County last month.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires a 60-day notice.

Last month, we told you about hundreds of layoffs in our area at Warrior Coal, Elk Creek, River View and White County Coal. White Oak Mine was also impacted in that round of layoffs.
