EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — People came together to remember the life of an Evansville radio legend Sunday night.

Mike “the Sandman” Sanders passed away back in September. He was working to move back to Evansville after being in Florida.

The people who came out to remember his life shared their memories of the Sandman and listened to him one more time on the radio. They say he truly was one of a kind.

“He was one of the nicest guys and one of the most generous guys I’ve ever met. Even if he didn’t have a bunch of money he would occasionally bring me an iced coffee because he knew that’s what I liked,” Bobby Gates said.

“It was a special evening because you could just feel the love for him. I knew it was going to be that way but I wasn’t prepared for the actual feeling tonight of everybody coming around and feeling him here. You could tell that mike was here with us tonight,” Rick O’Daniel said.

After Sanders died, people in Evansville raised money to bring his remains back home.
