PIKE COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT)- A southern Indiana community continues to say farewell and pay respect to a long time teacher who helped educate generation of kids.
Pike County Schools were closed Monday to honor Ivan Mason who passed away last week. mason was in his 40th year of teaching with most of his career completed at Winslow Elementry School.
Mason recently taught social studies at Pike Central High School gym.
Superintendent of Pike County School Corporation, Dr. Suzanne, said “it was hard sometimes to tell if the adults were comforting the students or the students comforting the adults. So it was an opportunity for everybody to work through the situation together and do a lot of remembering him.”
Dr. Blake said more than 1,500 people passed through both services. She said Mr. Mason did not want to retire because of the passion he had for teaching.
