EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The driver involved in a head-on collision Tuesday, a robbery suspect, was identified by the Vanderburgh County Coroner on Wednesday.

Brian Santiago Cruz, 19 of Huntingburg, died upon impact, the coroner’s office said.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.

According to authorities, deputies responded to the 4800 block of Rolling Ridge Dr. for a report of a stolen vehicle.

The victim told deputies she was involved in an altercation before her vehicle was stolen.

Around 10 minutes later, deputies said they found the vehicle at State Road 65 (Big Cynthiana Rd.) and New Harmony Rd.

Initially, deputies said the vehicle stopped, but as they approached, the driver allegedly sped away.

The vehicle led deputies on a pursuit north on SR 65.

The car then crossed the center line and hit a semi-truck head-on, authorities said.

Both vehicles caught fire, but deputies said the truck driver got out before both vehicles became fully engulfed.
