19-year-old suspect arrested in death of South Spencer High School student

Indiana State Police are investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday night in the area of South 9th and Seminary Streets in Rockport.

ROCKPORT, Ind. (WEHT) — A suspect has been arrested in connection to Wednesday night’s shooting in Rockport.

Indiana State Police say that as a result of their investigation, they have determined there was probable cause to arrest Joseph Allen Petry, 19, of Rockport, in the murder of Zane Lee, 18, also from Rockport.

Lee was a student at South Spencer High School. Schools officials confirm he was a senior.

Petry is being held at the Spencer County Detention Center on an initial charge of Murder.

Around 8:30 p.m., Rockport Police and deputies from the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call in the area of 8th and Seminary Streets.

Indiana State Police Jasper District says when they arrived, they discovered that Lee had been shot.

ISP says police attempted life-saving measures on Lee until Spencer County EMS arrived on scene and took over.

Lee’s autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.

The investigation is being conducted by the Indiana State Police Jasper Post.
