Coroner: Man in wheelchair, hit by vehicle earlier this month, dies at hospital

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Vanderburgh County Coroner Steve Lockyear announced on Friday that his office and the Evansville Police Department are investigating the death of a man in a wheelchair who was struck by a vehicle.

The coroner said 60-year-old John Johnson died on June 13 at Deaconess Hospital, where he was being treated for injuries from the crash.

An autopsy is scheduled for June 14.

The crash happened on June 2.

Police said it was a hit-and-run that happened around 11:45 p.m. when Johnson’s wife was pushing him across the Lloyd Expressway at Rosenberger.

Police said the suspect vehicle drove off.

It was described as a silver Pontiac with front-end damage.
