VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – The driver of an SUV has been sent to the hospital with a head injury after crashing into a backhoe Tuesday morning.

The sheriff’s office says the driver of the SUV ran into the back of the backhoe as they were driving down St. Joe Avenue.

The driver has a severe head injury and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Their condition is unknown at this time.

The area was closed off Tuesday morning as crews cleaned up the crash scene.

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – A crash just outside of Evansville has closed St. Joseph Avenue in Vanderburgh County early Tuesday morning.

The sheriff’s office said a crash involving an excavator (backhoe) and an SUV is the reason for the closure.

The area being closed off is between Allens Lane and Diamond Avenue.
