EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Deaconess Health is celebrating a milestone for a heart procedure that has helped 100 Tri-Staters.
Doctors at the Heart Hospital finished their 100th Trans Arterial Valve Replacement, or TAVR.
Several patients who had the procedure joined doctors this afternoon.
TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure that treats a condition in which heart valves don’t fully open and close.
“It’s awesome to see them. It’s quite a testament to what we’ve been able to accomplish under Dr. Penumetsa’s leadership as our structural heart leader. It’s very much a team effort.”
Deaconess Heart Group doctors were the first to perform the surgery locally and have done more procedures than other hospitals in the region.
