The City of Evansville Department of Urban Forestry recently was made aware of people going door-to-door advertising tree trimming services who were not properly licensed to do tree work in the city.

Tree companies that work for hire in Evansville must have a license and are required to provide a current certificate of insurance.

“Tree companies that are fraudulent will often give very cheap estimates for tree work that seems like a deal that is too good to pass up, but that is how they appeal to their potential customers,” City Arborist Shawn Dickerson said.

“These companies may also advise homeowners to top their trees, which is one of the worst things that can be done to a tree.”

The Evansville Department of Urban Forestry highly recommends that homeowners in Evansville only hire tree companies that are licensed by the City of Evansville and insured.

Homeowners are urged to call the Department of Urban Forestry office or visit our website to see if a company is licensed.

It is also recommend that homeowners never pay in advance for tree work.

If you are approached by someone going door-to-door looking for tree work, or if you suspect the individual is not licensed, please call the City of Evansville, Department of Urban Forestry, 812-436-5752.
