EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT)– The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man who fled from custody Friday morning. They’re calling him armed and dangerous.
Anthony Jones got away from the deputy after he hid from them in a house on Evansville’s north side.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says they went to a home on Maggie Valley Drive around 4 Friday morning because they got a tip Jones was inside. But he ran from them, more than once.
Jones is the suspect in an assault from October and when deputies knocked on his door on Maggie Valley Drive near Belmar Lane, Jones ran.
“They found him there and he was hiding in the back of a home. He was apprehended by one of our k-9s,” Jason Ashworth says
Deputies got him in handcuffs, but once they got him outside, he ran away still cuffed.
“At the time he was apprehended, he had a large Rambo style knife on him. So we are considering him to be armed and dangerous,” Ashworth explains.
They spent the morning looking for him.
“We still believe he’s in the neighborhood or in close proximity. We’ve got a number of people out there looking for him so I’m confident we’ll get him,” Ashworth says.
They’re using their k-9s to do so.
“We have a general area of where he is, and if someone spots him then we can find him in a residents or in an area, in the weeds, in a ditch. Then yes we can use our k-9s to find him,” Ashworth says. “We hope that the community would help and if they do spot him to call 9-1-1 or you can call the sheriff’s office here. “
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says, they have the knife jones was carrying but they believe he could have another weapon.
Jones was last seen wearing a brown coat and camouflage pants. He’s also bald with goatee style facial hair. If you see him or have any information call 9-1-1
