Body found in submerged vehicle in Owensboro

Local

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) Owensboro Police have confirmed one person has died after their body was found in a submerged vehicle.

OPD were called to a water emergency in the 5000 block of Wildcat Way just after noon on Monday. Officials say a vehicle had flipped and was submerged in the retention basin.

Officer Andrew Boggess says the vehicle was found upside down, and officers later found the body of a 69-year-old man inside. He says someone who may have seen the vehicle already upside down may have called police. Officer Boggess says they’re trying to determine when exactly the incident happened, and what lead up to this death.

“It could have happened overnight, or in the early hours, or whether it’s something that happened more recently. Like I said, if there could have been a medical factor that could have played into it, just a variety of things to help us determine what occurred,” said Ofc. Boggess.

Officers located a male victim in the vehicle and attempted life-saving measures, but the victim died from his injuries at the scene.

The investigation is still ongoing.
