MORGANFIELD, Ky (WEHT) Kentucky State Police say the man who barricaded himself in a hotel room at the Hometown Inn in Morganfield has been taken into custody. Alexander McWilliam was wanted in connection to the shooting death of Mishealia M. Meredith. Here body was found in Gallatin County on March 13.
Authorities had arrived at the hotel on Tuesday to arrest McWilliam. We’re told that’s when he barricaded himself in the hotel for nearly three hours. Witnesses at the scene tell us they heard police shouting through bull horns and microphones for McWilliam to surrender. McWilliam is being held in the Webster County Jail.
Long John Silver’s is across the road from the Hometown Inn. Hope Duncan is an employee there. She says the situation started around noon with a heavy police presence with guns drawn. Officers told customers at the restaurants were told to move away from the windows to the back of the restaurant.
“We had customers sitting over so they told us that we needed to back that way just in case. I felt safer I was away from it.”
McWilliam has a lengthy criminal record in Illinois. In 2018, he was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery. Prosecutors say he shot a man at home with the intent to kill him. The case ended in a plea deal. McWilliam was released on parole after just seven weeks in jail. He also has previous convictions and cases in other Illinois counties.
