Chicago (ABC) – The Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, IL announced the arrival of an eastern black rhino calf on May 19th.
Kapuki, the mother of the calf has been pregnant for over a year.
According to ‘National Geographic’ black rhinos could grow to be anywhere between 1,760-3,080 pounds and 4.5-6 feet tall at the shoulder.
Black rhinos are native to most of sub-Saharan Africa, but today the species is critically endangered due to illegal poaching.
This new addition to the Lincoln Park Zoo is one step towards keeping this species alive.
