Diocese of Owensboro: Father Bradley case is still being reviewed in Rome

Local News

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) – On Friday, Commonwealth’s Attorney Bruce Kuegel said the investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct involving Father Ed Bradley was closed. However, the Diocese of Owensboro released a statement Monday saying that the case is still being reviewed in Rome.

Read the full statement here:

“Even though the civil authorities have declined to pursue charges, the Diocese of Owensboro is bound to abide by the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People – a document published by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. In accordance with the Charter, Fr. Bradley’s case has been submitted to Rome and is still in process.”

The Commonwealth’s Attorney said the allegations were not supported by evidence.

Even if they were supported, Kuegel said the charges would have been misdemeanors and prosecution would be barred by the one-year statute of limitations.

The investigation surrounded alleged sexual misconduct involving Father Bradley and a former student in the early 1980s.
