EPD: Juvenile injured in Evansville shooting ‘unlikely to survive’

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Evansville Police are investigating a shooting in the 100 block of Jefferson Avenue. Evansville Police Sgt. Nick Winsett says the juvenile is “unlikely” to survive after being accidentally shot in the head by another juvenile.

It happened Tuesday night around 9 p.m. We’re told the victim and his juvenile cousin were in the backyard handling a firearm when the cousin says it just ‘went off’ and struck the victim in the head.

The cousin is now facing several charges including criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, theft of a firearm, and child in possession of a firearm.

The victim’s medical condition is unknown at this time.
