Perry County Sheriff Alan Malone says the body found yesterday morning is that of Scott Whitehead, who is from the Derby area.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources confirms that a body found in Perry County is that of a missing kayaker.
Authorities said the man’s body was found in approximately three feet of water in the vicinity of his capsized kayak.
The Perry County Sheriff’s Department was notified about a missing person on March 1.
Search teams spent the past five days looking for any signs of the missing person. The victim was located Tuesday.
Multiple agencies searched the area, but flood debris and thick vegetation made search efforts difficult.
“When the investigation started, Highway 66 and Thrifty Road were completely covered,” says Perry County Sheriff Alan Malone. “As the water receded, we were able to get to different areas, and the water receding was starting to help us out a lot.”
An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death.
Perry County Sheriff Alan Malone said a body was found in Poison Creek around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The identity has not been released yet.
Crews had been searching that area for a kayaker missing since last Thursday.
