BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Dozens of vehicles are destroyed after a brush fire spreads to a CarMax lot in Bakersfield, California.

Authorities say 86 vehicles were damaged or destroyed.

Around 45 to 50 firefighters responded to the scene around 1:30 p.m.

CarMax was evacuated as crews fought the blaze.

Drivers reported huge clouds of smoke drifting onto the highway near the fire.

Authorities say a big rig dragging a chain could have sparked the fire, but the driver was not found.
