Easter Seals Telethon Exceeds Million Dollar Goal

Local

Sunday was the 39th Annual Easter Seals Telethon, and this year they exceeded their $1 million goal.

The final tally for telethon was $1,047,592 for the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center. The center offers therapy services to children and adults with disabilities — who otherwise can’t afford the services.

Our Eyewitness News team was there for the ride, as well as Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, who proclaimed April 10th as “Easter Seals Day” for the City of Evansville.

This years’ adult representative Maurice Berendes says seeing young kids get the service they need warms his heart.

The community I think fully understands what Easter Seals does,” says Berendes, 73. “There is so much great response to the Easter Seals’ requests. The other thing is to see these kids advance month after month is absolutely wonderful. It’s a gratifying experience to see the kids make progress.”

If you didn’t donate Sunday and would still like to, you can donate year round at the Rehabilitation Center off Bellemeade Avenue in Evansville.
