Easterseals holds its annual iCan Bike camp

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Easterseals is holding its annual iCan Bike day camp this week in Evansville.

Twenty-two kids with disabilities are attending the camp at the National Guard Armory.

They’re learning to ride a bicycle for the first time, using a series of specially adapted bikes.

The five-day event includes training sessions with therapists and volunteers.

“When you see how these kids on Monday, they’re coming in all nervous and afraid, and by Friday they are so excited because they are riding a two wheel bike like their siblings, like their friends in the neighborhood, it just builds their self-esteem tremendously.”

This is the 16th year for the ‘iCan Bike’ Camp.

Each participant receives a special “bike camp” t-shirt and their own approved safety helmet.

Participants will also receive a personalized certificate of completion on Friday, June 28th.
