Easterseals says box truck was stolen

Local News

POSEY CO., Ind (WEHT) The Easterseals Rehabilitation Center’s Posey County location is facing a big hurdle to reopening after its 24-foot box truck was stolen.

“We use it to deliver a lot of the products that we work on here. We pick up and deliver with that,” Vice President Chris Imes said.

The theft was discovered Monday morning, but security footage shows it happened around 11:50 a.m. on Saturday.

The missing truck is a white 2012 International 4300 24-foot box truck. There was no cargo on board the truck, which was locked at the time of the crime.

Imes says surveillance cameras from neighboring businesses captured a second box truck pulling into their parking lot. Authorities say that truck was also stolen from Philpot, Kentucky.

“[They] drove through here, parked it right next to ours, climbed out, broke into ours and off they went,” Imes said.

Posey County Sheriff Tom Latham says he’s seen crimes like this before.

“It’s not a common occurrence, but it’s definitely not unheard of,” Sheriff Latham said.

Imes says if they don’t have their truck back, when it’s time for clients to return, there won’t be any work for them to do. With all they’re having to juggle right now, they’re disappointed someone would do this.

“We’re already struggling with the COVID-19 virus issues and to have that happen as well on top of it, it was kind of just a little too much for us to deal with,” Imes said.

The Posey County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. If you have any information, you’re asked to call 812-838-1320, or contact your local law enforcement agency.
