EPD: Handcuffed girl escapes attempted kidnapper

Suspect is on parole for kidnapping and rape

Evansville Police say a girl managed to escape from a man who kidnaped her at gunpoint Friday afternoon.

Police say a METS bus driver called 911 around 4:00pm after seeing the girl, in handcuffs, running away from a red Dodge truck on North Main Street.

According to police, the driver of the truck took off in reverse.

The teenage girl told police a man approached her as she was walking near the old IGA store and took out a handgun. He told her to get in the truck and placed her in handcuffs.

The girl told police that as he walked around the back of the truck she was able to open her door and run.

The girl gave some details to the police, but did not know her attacker.

Officers found a cell phone at the scene that did not belong to victim. The phone led officers to believe Roy Bebout, 46, was the suspect.

Police found him in Gibson County overnight. He is currently in the Vanderburgh County Jail on Kidnapping, Criminal Confinement, Battery, and Strangulation charges.

Bebout is currently on parole for kidnapping and rape.
