EPD K-9 Unit earns multiple awards at USPCA competition in Ohio, Illinois

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The Evnasville Police Department K-9 Unit has earned several awards at the recent United States Police Canine Association Region 5 Patrol Dog Trials and Certification events.

The trials were held from June 2nd through June 5th in Ohio and June 6th through June 9th in Illinois.

K-9 teams competed in several events, including agility, obedience, suspect search, evidence search, total search, and criminal apprehension.

In Ohio, EPD K-9 Officer Doug Buetel placed 1st out of 20 K-9 teams. EPD K-9 Sgt. Jason Thomas finished 2nd place overall.

These trials are a competition, but they also serve as certification events.

Teams that successfully complete each portion of the trial are given their annual USPCA Patrol Dog 1 certification and get to go home to serve their community.
