Evansville Police Department Changes Patch_8100070148908273304

Tri-state law enforcement said goodbye to one of their own Friday night. A Long-time Evansville Police Detective and Sergeant Larry Nelson passed away.

He was 58 years old. Nelson had been with the Evansville Police Department for more than two decades. He had previously served as president of the local fraternal order of police.

Larry was also instrumental in the creation and on-going activities with 911 Gives Hope charity. Friday night several local law enforcement agencies showed their support for Nelson and his family.

A long procession of cruisers and squad cars lined Highway 41 and Lincoln Avenue. Sirens were blaring and lights were flashing as they made their way to Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.

Funeral arrangements are pending. Nelson was diagnosed with late stage cancer six months ago, but he served EPD and the community until the end.
