EPD officer involved in police action shooting has returned to work

Local News

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The officer involved in last month’s police action shooting that ended with the death of Terry Chanley has returned to work.

The Evansville Police Department says Officer Mario Reid returned to work on Monday. He was placed on administrative leave following the incident, which is EPD protocol.

Reid responded to an accident on Morgan Avenue near Theatre Drive involving Chanley.

Police say after Reid got there, Chanley grabbed what Reid thought was a gun and Reid opened fire.

The object turned out to be a hammer.

EPD has said Reid did everything by the book in this incident.
