EPD: Two-year-old who shot herself is okay

The Evansville Police Department held a press conference Monday to provide updates about a two-year-old who shot herself this weekend.

Police said the two-year-old is okay.

Watch the press conference here:

EPD believes the girl found the gun in a bedroom of the apartment.

There were three adults in the apartment, police said. None of them were guardians of the child.

The shooting happened Saturday night at Savannah Garden Apartments.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and there are no pending charges.

Police are looking for Charico Carter as a possible witness. Police believe she was in the apartment when the shooting happened but fled before police arrived.

Police believe she fled to avoid arrest on two misdemeanor warrants. She's not a suspect in the shooting.

Police are trying to determine who owned the gun and how the child got ahold of it.

Anyone with information is asked to call EPD at 812-436-7979.
