EPD welcomes 14 new police officers

Local News

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Fourteen new police officers will soon patrol the streets of Evansville.

EPD welcomed the new officers to its ranks at a ceremony Monday. They all took an oath in front of family and city leaders.

Three women are part of this new class of cops.

Before they’re able to go on-duty, they have to complete intense training at the local law enforcement academy.

Fraternal Order of Police President, DJ Thompson, offered some advice.

“I’d like the congratulate the new officers that are getting ready to embark on the next stage of their lives. They’re going to get ready to start a job in which they will, in one way, experience the highest highs of your life, and they very next run you can have the lowest lows. It’s a job unlike any other.”

During the ceremony, two veteran officers received promotions to Corporal and Sergeant.
