Evansville apartment building left with major damages after fire

Police and firefighters were called to the scene of a house fire in Evansville.

Fire officials say neighbors reported that fire in the 12-hundred block of North Third Avenue just after 10:30 last night.

The house was converted into 3 apartments. 

The fire caused extensive damage to the upstairs apartment.

The home next door also had minor damage.

No one was hurt.

Police say neighbor said they saw several people leave the home and start fighting in the yard.

Officers say the nephew of the home-owner was living in the basement and that he initially lied to police. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
