EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — It should be a busy week for Evansville area hotels, retailers and restaurants.

Beginning Tuesday, The Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau will be hosting the ‘USSSA Girls’ Fastpitch Great Lakes Nationals Parade & Celebration,’ at 5 p.m. and continuing until 10 p.m.

The Convention & Visitors Bureau says more than 8,000 people will arrive this week for the Great Lakes Nationals, a softball tournament with about 200 teams from eight states.

Deaconess Sports Park on North Green River Road is the primary venue.

Boonville Softball Fields, Vann Road Park Fields in Newburgh and Newman Park in Henderson, Kentucky, also will host games.

Twenty fields will be in use as championships are contested in six age groups.

Games start at 8 a.m. Wednesday, but opening ceremonies are planned Tuesday evening in Downtown Evansville.

A red, white and blue-themed parade on Main Street starts at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, led by police cars, the Boom Squad and the Evansville Otterbelles.

The parade will lead into the Ford Center, where teams will be welcomed by Mayor Lloyd Winnecke.

A block party on Main Street with follow with food trucks, inflatables, pedicabs, music and more.
