EVANSVILLE, Ind (WEHT) A man who told detectives he grew up in a gang in Chicago, is in the Vanderburgh County Jail on attempted rape charges.

The incident happened on May 5 on East Maryland Street near St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

A woman told police that Jerron Reed, 38, came to her apartment and was let into the home by her 10-year-old son. She says they used to be friends, but that friendship had ended before Reed came to her home on May 5.

The victim said Reed assaulted her in her bedroom, and only stopped when her son heard her screams and knocked on the door, asking if she was OK.

Reed is a registered sex offender. When questioned by detectives, Reed admitted to going to the victim’s apartment, but denied going into her bedroom, and denied the assault.

Reed is in the Vanderburgh County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond.
