EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The search for the next conductor of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra is winding down as the final candidate visits Evansville this week.
The fifth and final guest conductor, Roger Kalia, is the music director of the California Orchestra Santa Monica.
Kalia was born in New York but has ties to the area as he earned his doctorate from Indiana University. Kalia says he’s eager to his public performance on Saturday.
“It’s a really vivid program. Every work paints a picture. So, the main piece on the program is Mendelson. One of the great composers right up there with Beethoven and Mozart. We’re going to perform his Symphony No. 3. It’s called the Scottish Symphony. It’s based on this grand tour he took when he was a very young boy,” said Kalia.
The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra hopes to name their next conductor by April 4th. Current conductor Alfred Savia is stepping down at the end of the season.
