An Evansville man dies after a shooting during a traffic stop Friday night.
Vanderburgh County Coroner Steve Lockyear says Douglas Kemp, 58, died from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso.
Just after 8 p.m. Friday, Evansville Police said a traffic stop near Covert Avenue and Hicks Drive ended with a police action shooting.
This is just west of Green River Road.
According to the probable cause affidavit, officers noticed a driver acting suspiciously and conducted a traffic stop for speeding. The driver, Douglas Kemp, stopped on Hicks, south of Covert.
During the stop, officers asked Kemp to get out of the car. Before doing so, police say Kemp produced a hand gun and didn't comply with officers' commands.
One officer shot their firearm, fatally wounding Kemp, who was the only person in the car. EPD confirmed that no police personnel were hurt.
