A sinkhole on Evansville’s south side appears to have been caused by a sewer gas leak.
This update is per Water and Sewer Utility officials.
The hole formed on Sweetser Avenue next to Glenwood Leadership Academy.
We’re told a 54 inch concrete pipe buried 25 feet underground sprung a sewer gas leak. That gas then corroded the surface above.
Crews plan to patch and fix the leak then fill up the hole.
The Water and Sewer Department expects repairs to last a few days.
