Evansville Water Dept. says claims that drinking water makes dogs sick are false

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Posts are circulating on social media that dogs in Evansville are getting sick, and the drinking water is to blame.

However, officials with the Evansville Water Department say those claims are false.

The department says no one has contacted them to say their dog got sick after drinking water from the city.

Eyewitness news also called several veterinarians to see if they have seen or treated such cases. All of them said “no.”

Utility officials say it appears to be a rumor gone wild.

“Our drinking water meets all EPA standards. We have not changed the disinfectant. That’s a fact. We are maintaining the same level of disinfection we have for decades. So, nothing has changed in the drinking water system.”

Some posts suggest the city’s recent switch in the way it treats water is to blame, but Allen Mounts says the City has not changed its chemical treatment in months.
