Evansville woman celebrates 100th birthday

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) An Evansville woman reached a major milestone Monday.
She celebrated her 100th birthday at Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Residents, staff and family threw a party for Ruth Rice.

Staff members at Pine Haven say Ruth has always been a spirited woman and her age has not slowed her down one bit.

She graduated from Evansville college in 1941 has been a basketball coach and a boy and girl scout leader.

Ruth also obtained her pilot’s license and was one of only a few female pilots in her time.

Ruth now has four children, nine grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Her oldest son, Tom rice says, “She’s a very happy person, very outgoing person. When she was younger, she flew airplanes and just was the life of the party.”
