Evansville woman charged with murder

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) — The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of 60-year-old Edward Payne last night.

Sheriff Dave Wedding says his wife, 51-year-old Wendy Owen Payne, has been charged with his murder. Wedding says Wendy Owen Payne called dispatch shortly after 6 P.M. and admitted to stabbing her husband.

Wedding says when he arrived on scene, Wendy Owen Payne was distraught and covered in blood. Inside their residence on Glenview Drive, Wedding said Edward Payne was lying motionless on the floor.

Wedding said an autopsy has been conducted and the cause of death was a single stab wound to the heart. Once Wendy Owen Payne was taken into custody, Wedding says she invoked her right an attorney.
