Event offers Vanderburgh Co. residents a chance to lift their warrants

Local News

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – Anyone with outstanding warrants in Vanderburgh County had the chance to get back in good standing with the court.

The county hosted a Warrant Compliance Tuesday morning at the courts building.

Anyone with an active misdemeanor warrant was able to show up, have their warrant recalled “without” being arrested and get back on the court calendar.

As soon as the warrant was lifted, folks were able to appear before a judge.

One person even drove all the way from Oregon to get their record straight.

“Really, it just gets the cases moving again. Some of these people have warrants 10 or 15 years old, and they simply need to get them taken care of. They didn’t really understand the process, and they need to come back in and get the case moving again.”

The prosecutor’s office says there are about 12,000 active misdemeanor warrants throughout Vanderburgh County.
